

Lawrence Palmer O’Meallie passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the age of 89. A native of New Orleans, Larry was born May 31, 1932 to the late Nellie Garic O’Meallie and Lawrence Bosworth O’Meallie. He is survived by his loving wife Sally Barlow O’Meallie; his adoring daughter, Karen O’Meallie Gundlach (Mark); his step-children, Katherine Margaret Norton, William Barlow Norton and Sarah Norton Samuel (Scott); and his grandchildren, Patrick William Samuel and James Richards Samuel. Larry attended Jesuit High School and Tulane University. Thereafter, he obtained his MD at Tulane University School of Medicine. Larry practiced Interventional Cardiology for 51 years, most of which were at Southern Baptist Hospital and Tulane Medical Center. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. Larry was dedicated to his work and will always be respected and remembered for his commitment to his patients. His personal interests consisted of music, especially opera, and nature photography with a concentration on birds. He traveled across Central and South America focusing on photographing birds in flight, specifically hummingbirds. He participated in many conservation issues and is a past president of the Orleans Audubon Society, Louisiana Ornithological Society, and a past board member of the New Orleans Philharmonic Society and also WWNO public radio station, where he was its first president. Additionally, Larry was a member of the Commanderie de Bordeaux, New Orleans Country Club and several carnival organizations. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Frank Wilklow, Dr. Jay St. John and the caregivers and staff at St. Margaret’s at Mercy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130.
