Linda Ritter Richard passed away at the age of 76 on May 6, 2023. She was born on August 26, 1946 to the late Gloria Rita Meyer Ritter and Shelton Leo Ritter in New Orleans. She worked in accounting and was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church.
As the eldest of three daughters, Linda was born to be a leader, helper, and problem solver. She started her education at St. Dominic School in Lakeview, and from there proceeded to Mt. Carmel Academy and later to Louisiana State University. After moving home to complete her college education, she met her loving husband of 52 years. After becoming his “beautiful bride,” she worked in banking and advertising. After taking a fulfilling job at Loyola University New Orleans, she was able to make connections with the students from all over the world. Among the best of those times were the years she relished as her daughter attended the school. Linda loved cooking, gardening, reading, traveling, spending time at the beach, and doting on her three granddaughters. She had a vibrant personality that thrived in social settings with her lifelong friends. She also valued her time at home recharging with a good book and snuggling up to one of her beloved animals. She was a devoted Catholic and found comfort and peace praying the rosary.
She is preceded in death by: her parents; her son, William Charles Richard, III; and her sister, Gloria Ann Ritter Griffiths.
She is survived by: her husband of 52 years, William Charles Richard, Jr.; her daughter, Elizabeth Ritter Richard Showalter (Brian Showalter); her grandchildren, Cameron Showalter, Margot Showalter, and Blair Showalter; her sister, Therese Ritter Stentz; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to give their special thanks to the medical staff at East Jefferson General Hospital for bringing Linda smiles and laughter throughout her final days.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. A noon service is to immediately follow visitation, with Fr. Andrew Gutierrez officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made to Second Harvest Food Bank in Linda’s memory.
