Lloyd was a longtime resident of Harahan for over 50 years before Katrina caused him to relocate to Gonzales, Louisiana.
He went to work at the early age of 16 for Higgins Shipyard building PT boats for World War II. He worked as a salesman at Woodward Wright for over 20 years before opening his own business, Reliance Machinery with two partners, Louis Rodrigue and Eugene Barrios.
His family was his greatest treasure. Nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by all of his family and friends at family gatherings of which there were many. Some of the best being barbecues at home or fancier celebrations at Antoine’s in the French Quarter.
Lloyd loved sports, having run track himself. He, also, coached a basketball team while at Woodward Wright. He especially enjoyed attending his son’s baseball games and his grandson’s soccer games. He was an avid Saints fan from their very beginning. He belonged to the Touchdown Club and traveled with them to many out of state games. He enjoyed all LSU sports as well.
He loved to travel and traveled all over the world with family and friends.
He was a kind, loving man who lived out his Catholic faith at St. Rita’s in Harahan where he served in many different roles with the Dad’s Club and Knights of Columbus.
Many thanks to Tammy who took care of him in Gonzales allowing him to stay in his home longer. A special thank you to Rick and Debbie Russell, his wonderful Gonzales neighbors for your love and kindness. To Lynn for your compassionate care, we thank you. To Lacey and Anthony, you were our guardian angels, caring for Mom and Dad as if they were your own family. We will be forever grateful. To the entire staff at Ville St. Marie for treating “Sir” Lloyd like the Knight he truly was. Your loving, compassionate care made all the difference in the world to him and the entire family. Thanks to each of you.
Visitation will be at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, starting at 11AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025 with a service to follow at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a children’s hospital of your choice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
