Lois Johnson Oubre passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at the age of 82. She was born in New Orleans to the late Horace James Johnson and Elvina Doody Johnson on November 18, 1940.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lynn Joseph Oubre; parents; brother, James “Jimmy” Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Sheri Oubre.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Oubre (fiance: Pamela) and Susan Prados (Daniel); grandchildren, Haley Oubre, Megan Prados Treuting (Brad), Jared Prados (Fiance: Chelsea), and Scott Prados; and great-grandchildren, Allie and Beau Treuting.
Lois graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in 1958, and she then continued her education at Mercy Hospital Nursing School, completing the program in 1962. Later, she earned her Master’s Degree from the College of St. Francis. Lois worked at East Jefferson Hospital from the time the hospital was established until she retired in 1999. In addition to nursing, she also taught Lamaze classes at the hospital.
She was a woman of great devotion to the Catholic faith. Lois was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
A few notable aspects of Lois was her love for helping others, looking after her grandchildren, reading, cooking, playing cards and traveling with her friends, and her strong faith.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and mass on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. until Mass at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum..
