Lorraine Louise Armagnac LaCour, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Kenner after Hurricane Katrina, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025. She was 104 years old. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 80 years, Owen J. LaCour, Sr.
She was the loving and devoted mother of seven children: Judy L. Drez and her husband, Ron (and their children: Ron, Jr. (Allison); Kevin (Ann); Diane D. Barnett (Tom); and Craig (Amy)); the late O.J., Jr., and his wife, Sandy (and their children: Jay (Stacey), Greg (Yvette), Stephen (Sarah), and Jeffrey (Jackie)); Ronald and his wife, Joanne (and their children: Kristie L. Broussard and Keith (Angelina)); Charles and his wife, Jean (and their children: Mark (Ginger) and Julie L. Isch (Roberto)); Barry and his wife, Jenny, of New Iberia (and their children: Gabrielle L. Heil (John) and Joey (Laura)); Edmund and his wife, Robin, of Dothan, Alabama (and his children: Eddie, Jr. (Alice); Danny; Will; and Rachael); and Karen L. Puente and her husband, Mickey (and their children: Michael, Jr.; Andrew; James; and Madeline). She is also survived by 42 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and son O.J, she was predeceased by her parents, Henry E. Armagnac and Marceline Petit Armagnac; her brothers, Henry V. Armagnac and Maurice D. Armagnac; and her sister, Gloria A. Cacamo.
Lorraine was a devout Roman Catholic and prayed the Rosary daily. You knew you were in good hands when she told you that she was moving you up to the top of her prayer list. In 1970, she became a founding member of the St. Michael Ladies’ Guild, a spiritual club dedicated to the cause of helping and supporting the students of St. Michael Special School.
She was a 1937 graduate of John McDonogh High School, foregoing a scholarship to college in order to help support her family. She grew up during the Depression, which undoubtedly prepared her for being the chief disciplinarian of her children and a tough taskmaster.
“Mumsy,” as she was known to her grandchildren, was an avid reader, a keen bridge player, and an excellent dancer. As the matriarch of a very large family, she held strong beliefs on many subjects and never hesitated sharing those beliefs. She cherished her family and enjoyed family gatherings, especially those at which she was the center of attention, as she engaged everyone around her. Lorraine had a zest for life; she was loved and will be missed.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 4640 Canal Street, New Orleans, with visitation commencing at 10 a.m. followed by words of remembrance at 11:45 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at noon. The celebrant of the Funeral Mass will be Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond, assisted by Deacon Ronald J. Drez, Jr. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
