Louis Leslie Babin, Jr., age 77, beloved father, grandfather and brother, died peacefully on the morning of Friday, August 1, 2025 in the emergency room at East Jefferson General Hospital of a sudden heart attack. Louis (more often known as Louie) was born on September 26, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the oldest child of Louis Leslie Babin, Sr. and Vivian Pauline Landis Babin.
Louis graduated from St. Dominic Grammar School and Cor Jesu High School. He attended LSU and Southeastern colleges. Every year, up until recently, Louis would regularly take at least two courses at Delgado Community College. Louis began his working career in the Orleans Parish Library system. Later, he worked in the hospitality industry. After his retirement, he worked at Morning Call until he was seventy-six years old. Louis fervently embraced his Catholic faith. He consistently wore a crucifix around his neck and he habitually carried a rosary – often visibly in his hands. He made the sign of the cross whenever he passed a Catholic Church. Louis particularly enjoyed fishing, golf, and attending Jazz Fest, which was in walking distance from his mid-city home. Louis spent the last fifteen months in custodial care at the Colonial Oaks Living Center due to his disabilities from Parkinsonism. The entire staff at Colonial Oaks gave him 24-7 loving care.
Louis is survived by his two precious daughters, Laura Lynn (Michael Barbe) and Allison Mary. He leaves his two beautiful granddaughters, Savannah and Ava Barbe. He will be deeply missed by his caring siblings, Yvonne Babin Yancovich (Eddie), Lawrence Landis Babin (Denise), and Vivian Babin Piazza (Louis). Louis is survived by numerous loving cousins (mostly in the Pennsylvania area) and especially by Sheri and Larry Clasen from Covington, Louisiana. The family would like to give a special thanks to Ochsner Medical Center (particularly Dr. Joseph Miceli), Tonya Jourdan and Robert Champagne.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday, August 18, 2025 at St. Dominic Church, 775 Harrison Ave. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 10 AM – 12 PM with a funeral Mass to begin at 12 PM, celebrated by the Reverend Father Anthony Rigoli, OMI. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA.
