Lyndel Bird Blappert passed away on May 29, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on July 3, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in New Orleans and University of New Orleans, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Engineering. After college, she enjoyed a long career as an electrical and mechanical engineer. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and traveling internationally- particularly cruising in the Caribbean and spending time in the U.S. Virgin Island, Saint Croix, with her husband.
She is survived by her sons, Troy Blappert and Dr. Bradley Blappert; grandchildren, Christopher I. Blappert, Isabelle Blappert, Alex Blappert, Abigail Blappert, and Harrison Blappert; and brother, Bryant Bird.
Lyndel was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Philip A. Blappert; and her parents, Lewis and Helen Parmentel Bird.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life in the event center of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10 AM to 12 PM. Lyndel will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Park immediately afterwards.
