Maclyn Le Bourgeois died peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 30, 2023. Maclyn or “Mackie” as family and friends called her, was born in New Orleans on November 22, 1936 to Marie Natalie Eugénie Friedrichs Le Doux and Joseph McLean Le Doux.
Mackie graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart where she formed lifelong friendships, and attended University of Mary Washington and Newcomb College where she pledged Pi Beta Phi. She married the love of her life, Louis Powell “Wootie” Le Bourgeois Jr, on August 15, 1957 and was blessed with 63 wonderful years of marriage. They had many good friends and happy memories. Mackie and Wootie and their children spent most weekends exploring barrier islands in the Mississippi Sound and fishing the Louisiana marsh. One year Mackie won Top Lady Angler at the New Orleans Big Game Fishing Club Deep Sea Fishing Tournament by catching a one hundred- and eighty-six-pound tuna. They loved natural beauty and wildlife and instilled this love in their children. Mackie enjoyed bird watching and gardening especially in her later years at their home on Wolf River in Mississippi. She had fun with her many devoted friends having lunch or playing mahjong and bridge; she was also a sustaining member of the Junior League of New Orleans.
Family was most important to Mackie. She is survived by her three beloved children, Maclyn Thérèse Le Bourgeois Hickey (Alex), Louis Powell Le Bourgeois III (Tera), and Marie Marthe “Marti” de Balathier Claiborne Le Bourgeois McEnery (Parke); and her devoted sisters Marie Natalie Eugénie Le Doux Faust and Sidonie Marie Le Doux Middleton. Mackie was blessed with six grandchildren, Ninette Thérèse de Balathier Hickey, Mary Wilder “Mimi” Claiborne Le Bourgeois, Louis Powell Le Bourgeois IV, Samuel Parkerson McEnery, Jr, Henry “Hap” Friedrichs Blow McEnery, and Marie Marthe “Mackie” de Balathier Claiborne McEnery. She also leaves behind an aunt and cousins, many nephews and nieces, their children and grandchildren.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Kimberlee Peeper and Mery “Annabell” Canales for their care for our mother in her final months.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Church on Thursday, June 8 at 11:00 am, visitation at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery and a reception afterwards at home.
