

Malinda Casby Mitchell entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 11, 2016. She was 55 years old. The beloved daughter of Israel and Helen Casby, Malinda was born on July 5, 1960 in New Orleans. She leaves behind her son Roderick D. Mitchell II, a daughter Renitta Mitchell Sweet, son-in-law John Dontae Sweet, and former spouse Roderick D. Mitchell, Sr. Sister of Jean Robinson (Billy Robinson), Willa Mae Williams (JC Williams), Warren Ayize Casby (Vera), Partrica Thompkins (Dezi Thompkins), Tyrone Casby (Lesa Casby), Thomas Casby, Shelia Delair (Terrius Delair), Sharon Love (Michael Love). Passed siblings Israel, Ralph, George, Amanda, and Sherman. Aunt to 31 nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.

The Joy of the Lord was her strength and Mount Sinai Baptist Church was her church home. Malinda was well traveled and lived in many places but had a church home wherever she went. A woman of unprecedented faith, she instilled Christian values in her children and ministered to all she knew. One of her favorite sayings was “Go to church!” While in Columbus, Ga. she attended Bread of Life Christian Center under Bishop L.D Skinner.
Malinda was a graduate of L.B Landry High School Class of 78 and received her Associates Degree from Delgado Community College. She spent several years in the banking industry but always focused on volunteer efforts. She had a passion for reading and helping children. For over 20 years she volunteered at several schools and after school programs including McDonogh 32 Elementary, Edna Karr Magnet School where she received the Volunteer of the Year Award, and the Elizabeth Canty tutoring program in Columbus, GA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 1249 LeBeouf St. in New Orleans, on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:00AM. Burial will be private.
