Mary Catherine Youngblood Hammant, a resident of Metairie and a parishioner of St. Angela Merici passed away at her home surrounded by her family on January 25, 2023. Mary was born on December 13, 1938, in New Orleans to Louis Peter Youngblood, Jr and Mary DiFranca Youngblood. Mary is survived by her loving husband of sixty-two years, Frank J. Hammant, Jr. and her four children, Frank J. Hammant, III (Kimberly), Michael K. Hammant (Stacey), Maryann Hammant Rooney (Pat), and Stacey Hammant Wickersham (Jeff). She was a devoted grandmother to her 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah), Mallory (Robert), Hillary (Hunter), Kristin, Tiffany (Adam), Ashleigh, Patrick, Shelby, Kyle and Lindsey; and her 7 great-grandchildren, Lucy, Porter, Emma, Knox, Frankie, Phoebe and Mary. Mary will forever be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother and a true friend. She had a kind heart and contagious smile that was recognized by everyone who met her. She found so much joy in cooking “Tuesday Night Dinner” for her family, attending sporting events and ceremonies for her children and grandchildren, and spending time with her family and friends in Pass Christian. Nothing made Mary happier than spending time with her family, her proudest accomplishment. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life which will be held at St. Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr. Metairie, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm followed by a mass. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Mary’s two favorite organizations: Any St. Anthony’s Poor Box or St. Jude at www.stjude.org/donate.
