

Mary Elizabeth Vezien Wendt, retired dancing school teacher and owner of Vezien and Wendt School of Dance, passed away at her Metairie residence at the age of 93 on Thursday, June 19, 2014. She was a New Orleans native and resident of Metairie for the past 60 years. Beloved wife for 57 years to the late Fred August Wendt, Jr. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Myrtle Vezien, and son Fred August Wendt III. Mother of Georgia Wendt Pugeau (late husband, Charles), and grandmother of Ashley Pearson (Bill), Chenét d’Hemecourt (Thomas), Erin Wendt (Maya), and Troy Wendt. She is survived by ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Wendt was a graduate of Haynes and Martin school of dance and attended Loyola University. She began teaching dancing at the age of 16, participated in New Orleans and New York theater, and was a former Radio City Music Hall Rockette. She was the owner of Vezien and Wendt School of Dance for 64 years, where she taught until the age of 80. She was a founding member of Metairie Country Club and served in numerous charitable organizations. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Elizabeth Guild are greatly appreciated.
