Maryann is survived by her husband of 35 years, Stephen Guynes; children Felicia and Sebastian Guynes; brothers Christopher and Vincent Pereira;
sister Angela John. Nieces and nephews: Sarah and Jeremiah John, Candice Fisher, Roy, Evangeline, Jason, William, Michelle, Victoria, Hayley and Tiffany
Pereira. She is preceded in death by her parents Joan and William Pereira and brothers Desmond and Michael Pereira. Maryann graduated from Aga Khan University and then went on to receive her Bachelors in Nursing from Loyola University. She was a registered nurse at Tulane Lakeside Hospital for over 30 years.
Maryann was a first responder, philanthropist, DIY-er, artist, musician, and beach lover.
Maryann and Stephen had been inseparable from the moment they met in January 1986. Best friends and soul mates, they collaborated on beautiful woodworking projects together. Maryann loved being a den mother for her son’s scouting through the years and supported his academic career more than anyone. She inspired him to go into medicine through her dedication to helping her patients even when it caused her to work overtime and after her shifts.
Maryann loved her daughter immensely and fervently supported her in her education, her love of fishing, traveling, and refurbishing hidden gems. They enjoyed penny shopping and hunting for the best deals at thrift stores, always finding diamonds in the rough. She was a cultivator and curator of intrinsic value in even the smallest detail with the ability to glean radiance in material, and even more so in the loved ones around her. Maryann is a light that will always shine for all of us.
