Mason Garner Stevenson, 64, of New Orleans, passed away on June 14, 2025. He was born in New Orleans to John A. and Janet G. Stevenson on October 3, 1960. Mason graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and worked as an Environmental Geologist until his retirement.
Mason lived life with energy, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the things that brought him joy. A passionate and adventurous home chef, Mason loved to cook all kinds of cuisine from scratch. He took pride in sourcing fresh ingredients from local markets, roasting and grinding his own spices, and crafting homemade sauces and condiments. Whether it was a complex Indian curry or a Korean Kimchi, Mason embraced every culinary challenge with enthusiasm.
He was an avid golfer, playing nearly every morning with a close-knit group of friends at Audubon, often teeing off at sunrise. Fishing was another favorite pastime- he never turned down an invitation to cast a line. Mason had a deep love for motorcycles, both collecting and riding them, and he found joy in the freedom of the open road.
Always on the move, Mason thrived on activity and connection, constantly engaged in projects or conversations. He had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor, often sharing jokes, funny videos, and messages that brought laughter to those around him.
Above all, Mason treasured the time spent with his children and granddaughters in Houston. His visits were filled with laughter and love. He also shared a special bond with his cat, Boudreaux, who was a beloved companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Laura Stevenson Holmes (Garth E. Holmes); son, James Mason Stevenson; grandchildren, Gabrianna and Gracelyn Holmes; sister, Louise S. Marino; brother, John A. Stevenson, Jr.; former spouse and co-parent, Peggy P. Fries.
Visitation will be from 9 – 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Joseph McDaniel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Mason’s honor to ASPCA or Audubon Nature Institute.
