Myrl (Stevens) Stutson, a dedicated wife, mother, business owner, and lifelong Louisianian, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in New Orleans on August 25, 1934, she was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy.
In her younger years, Myrl was a talented pianist and equestrian who excelled in English dressage. Later in life, she enjoyed square dancing and extensive travel with her husband. An avid reader throughout her life, Myrl found solace in the pages of a good book.
In 1965, Myrl married the love of her life, Harold J. Stutson. Together, they carried forward the legacy left by her father, Theodore “Tats” Stevens, in the drayage business. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, GPS Corporation played a critical role in moving containers to their final destinations and keeping supply chains flowing while the Port of New Orleans was closed.
Over the years, Myrl and Harold lived in Lakeview, Metairie, Venetian Isles, and Lafayette before settling in Kenner.
Myrl is survived by her beloved husband, Harold J. Stutson; her daughter, Sharron (Paul) May; her grandson, Avery May; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Marie Aleman; her son, Steven Douglas Aleman; her parents, Theodore “Tats” Stevens and Vivian Taylor Stevens; and her sister, June (Terence) Brown.
Heartfelt thanks go to Joey Stutson, Debbie Lemoine, Birdie Stutson and the entire family of the late Joseph Stutson. Their hands-on care brought comfort and joy to Myrl’s final year. Deep appreciation is also extended to Hospice Specialists of Louisiana, The Medical Team, and Myrl’s devoted caregivers: Becky, Deanna, Evelenia, Veronica, Judy, Joann, Keiyana, and Tei.
A small, intimate gathering of family and friends will be held in Myrl’s honor to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates prayers and the offering of masses for her soul.
