On March 29, 2025, Nancy Hyde Evans, a loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully in her home, with family at her side. Nancy was born on August 30, 1950 in New Orleans. She was the third of six children of Gordon Benedict Hyde, Sr. and Rose Mary Druilhet Hyde. Nancy graduated from Mercy Academy in New Orleans and received a Bachelors in Education from Louisiana State University, where she was also a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She had two children, Elizabeth and Tommy, but the true loves of her life were her granddaughters, Ellie and Elise. MaMere, as she was known to them, adored her time with "her girls”. She never missed a Grandparent's Day, a volleyball game, or a chance to babysit. Some of Nancy's greatest memories were from the time she spent in Destin at their family condo, both as a child with her siblings and later with her own children. She would often recall time spent on her father's houseboat, The Hyde-Away, during high school years and in early adulthood. Nancy loved spending time with her nieces, nephews and great nieces. Nancy's love of children led to her charity work with the Ronald McDonald House, where she served on the Board of Friends, and with A Child's Wish.
Nancy will be missed sorely by her family and all who called her a friend, but especially those who called her MaMere. She is survived by her cherished children, Elizabeth Evans Klein and Tommy Evans; granddaughters, Ellie Klein and Elise Klein; and her great-nieces, who were very special to her, Emily Wakefield, Claire Wakefield, Grace Wakefield and Camille Wakefield; her sisters, Mary Lynn Hyde (Steve Rossi), Nicki Sullivan, Sally Cregor (Robert Cregor), Tecile Newsome (Bill Newsome) and brother, Gordy Hyde, Jr. (Suzanne Hyde); and her cousin, Debbie Druilhet. She will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews.
Tommy and Elizabeth would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the following people that showed their mother kindness during her treatment and last months: Doctors Ahuja, Padman and Spring, Anvoi Hospice, Monique Richards, Bernadette Green and Glenda Hulbert. The entire family would like to thank Sister Victorina and the Sister Servants of Mary, who were nothing less than Heaven sent and positively impacted all our lives. Sister Victorina was a blessing during such a difficult time and we are eternally grateful.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 12:00pm on Monday, April 7, 2025 at St. Rita Church in New Orleans. A visitation will occur prior to Mass from 10:30am-ending at noon. Private Interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Ronald McDonald House of New Orleans.
