Nereyda Almeida Migenes

Nereyda A. Migenes was peacefully called home at the age of 86. Beloved widow of Jorge G. Migenes. Nereyda was blessed with two children, Maria M. Melendreras (Eduardo) and Jorge Migenes. She had five grandchildren, Christina Melendreras Moises (Christopher), Sean Melendreras, Alec Melendreras, Alyssa Migenes, Kristyn Migenes, and one great grandson, Lukas E. Moises- all of whom she loved and adored.

Nereyda was a native of Matanzas, Cuba where she taught kindergarten and piano. In 1966 she came to the U.S. with her family and later opened her own interior decorating business, “Personal Touch by Nere”. Her talent in sewing was evident in the beautiful drapes that she created to beautify people’s homes. She loved the people she met through her business. Nereyda was a kind, sweet, hardworking, and humble woman. She enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, and cooking for her family. She had a fondness and love for the members of the “Club Cubano de Profesionales” and “The Ladies Thursday Rosary Group”, and considered them her family.

She was a devoted Catholic who put all her faith in Jesus Christ and she had a deep devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary. Our Lord and his Mother were always the foundation and center of her life and family. Nereyda was a parishioner of St. Ann Church and Shrine, where her life will be celebrated on Saturday October 16, 2021.

Relatives, friends, and loved ones are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Ann Church and Shrine, 3601 Transcontinental Dr. in Metairie, on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 10:30AM. The visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:30AM. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park.

Nereyda will be forever loved and dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
