Norman Joseph “Buddy” Coste Jr., a lifelong resident of his birthplace in Metairie, Louisiana, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 88. He had been the beloved only son of the late Norman Joseph Coste, Sr., a dedicated dairy farmer whose hard work and love for the land in Jefferson Parish shaped Buddy’s early life, along with his loving Sicilian mother, Sadie Bua Coste.
Buddy was raised in budding Jefferson Parish, learning the values of perseverance, family, and community from his father’s dairy farm. Those formative years instilled in him a deep appreciation for honest labor and the simple joys of life. As an adult, he made Metairie his home, where he built a life filled with warmth, enduring friendships, lots of hunting and fishing and spirit of fun.
Known affectionately as “Buddy” to all who knew him, he was a man of kindness and humor, always ready with a story or lending of an ear. He cherished time spent with family and friends, enjoying Louisiana’s rich culture, music and food, or simply savoring the serene beauty of his home state. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (86), two sons, Kurt (67) and Ronnie (65), his only grandchild, Kelsey (30), along with her husband, son-in-law, Phillip Morin (40), who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Buddy graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts. As a commercial artist, he would soon own and operate Coste Advertising Services in downtown New Orleans doing ads, logos, and camera ready artwork for local businesses and printing companies. A long-time member of the Greater New Orleans Tarpon Club, he was an avid fisherman and deep sea fishing lure inventor, with a multitude of awards, and once landed a 138 pound tarpon just off the Bonnabel Boat Launch.
A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held at St. Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr. in Metairie, with visitation on Monday, January 5th from 10:00AM until 12:00PM and the Memorial Mass at 12:00PM. The interment will follow immediately at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
Buddy’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched — a true son of the sportsman’s paradise, whose spirit reflected the resilience and heart of his dairy farming roots. He will be deeply missed.
