

Mrs. Louis (Peggy) R. Koerner died peacefully at the age of 95 on April 16, 2015, after succumbing to Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis R. Koerner, Sr. She was also predeceased by her parents, Captain William and Bessie John who were killed in Hurricane Camille. She is survived by her daughter, Francesca Elaine Reuter (Frahn) Koerner, and her two sons Louis R. Koerner, Jr. and Timothy W. Koerner. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She graduated from McMain High School and attended LSU. She was an avid traveler and volunteer leader of many organizations. Mrs. Koerner was a lifelong member of the Orleans Club and the Southern Yacht Club.
She served as a board member of the Republican Women's Club of New Orleans, the New Orleans Home and Rehabilitation Center (Home for the Incurables). She was the longtime President of the Spring Fiesta Association. She was the first woman member of the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce after serving on the Women’s Auxiliary. She also served as a board member of the St. Elizabeth's Volunteer Activist Program, the Newcomb Dance Department, Valencia, and the Eye Bank. She was very active in local science fairs and reading programs at the New Orleans public schools. She was a charter member and one of the ladies who identified a need for Children's Hospital. Mrs. Koerner received numerous leadership and community service awards, such as being the first woman to receive the Metropolitan Leadership award from Tulane University, the Distinguished Community Service award from the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, an Outstanding Community Service Award "For the Children" and the Saint Elizabeth Volunteer Activist Award. She was one of three women invited to participate in the first Metropolitan Area Committee Leadership Forum. She was the Co-Founder and President of the local chapter of the Freedom’s Foundation at Valley Forge. She was a voracious reader and a volunteer for the "Light House for the Blind," reading literature, medical and law books to be recorded for the blind. Visitation will be at Holy Name of Jesus Church on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at l0:00 am, Fr. Eddie Gros will be the Presider and Homilist for the mass at 11:00 am with interment in the Reuter Tomb at St. Louis Cemetery #3.
