Peggy Weatherby Sanchez passed away on October 16, 2018, at the age of 87. Born on February 7, 1931, Peggy Ann Weatherby grew up in Springhill, Alabama, and attended Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. Upon moving to New Orleans, she began a lifelong love affair with the city. Peggy married James R. “Skee” Sanchez on May 1, 1954, at Mater Dolorosa Church. During their 40-year marriage, they were active in the Southern Yacht Club, supporters of both Tulane and LSU and the proud parents of three wonderful sons.
After all of her sons moved to Baton Rouge to attend LSU, Peggy became a tour guide and began to share her love of New Orleans with others. Until recently, she still volunteered at the Audubon Aquarium two days a week. Peggy loved the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Mardi Gras and hated to miss a parade or a party. She never allowed her age to slow her down and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Arvilla Kulawske and Marion Everette Weatherby, her brother, Marion Everette Weatherby, Jr., her sister Ruth Weatherby Fabacher and her husband, Skee.
She is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-law: James Rocquet “Rocky” Sanchez, Jr., and Christy Carney; Clifton Weatherby Sanchez and Shari Curtis; and Stephen Albert and Laura Sanchez; her adoring grandchildren: Brandon Rocquet and Jasie Sanchez; Chelsea Elizabeth Sanchez; Rachel Weatherby Sanchez; and Sophia McComb Sanchez; a beloved great-granddaughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Sanchez, who always brought a smile to her face; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express sincere thanks for the wonderful help and care provided by home health nurses and caregivers during her illness.
Friends and family are invited to attend services in the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., LA, 70124, on October 22, 2018. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with services immediately following. Interment will be at All Saints Mausoleum. A celebration of her life will be held following the interment. All friends and family are welcome.
