Reynaldo Evaristo Torres, of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife, Gloria Esperanza Torres, and surrounded by loved ones on June 12, 2023. Reynaldo was born on October 26, 1919 and lived to be a remarkable 103 years-old.
His journey on this earth began in Corozal, Belize, as one of six siblings with whom he remained close throughout his life. As a young man, Reynaldo was a Spanish teacher in Belize. He then traveled all over Central America as a businessman before settling in Metairie in the 1970s to join siblings and help care for their ailing mother.
Reynaldo was a caring husband and a devout Catholic, whose faith gave him a great capacity for love. He appreciated the slower, quieter parts of life, and enjoyed walking, including to church every day until he no longer could. He was an avid gardener, especially of violets and vegetables, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and other word games. Though Reynaldo has begun his eternal journey in the arms of Our Lord in Heaven, his calm and steady presence will forever be felt by those who knew him in this world.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; stepchildren, Jose E. Calderon (Mirna) and Karen J. Calderon (Elizabeth Stickman); step-grandchildren, Justin J. Calderon, Seleny A. Calderon, Andres E. Calderon (Bailey), Favio J. Calderon, Gabriel A. Calderon, and Isabel F. Calderon-Stickman; and step-great-grandchild, Dominic A. Calderon.
Reynaldo is preceded in death by his parents, Julio and Valeria Torres; siblings, Orlando Torres, Consuelo Torres, Marcela Arnoux, Margarita Bolton, and Rosalinda Torres.
To honor Reynaldo’s memory, relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass officiated by Rev. Michael Kettenring in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 11 AM. Visitation will begin at 9 AM. Reynaldo will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Park following the chapel service.
