Richard Joseph Conti

Richard J. Conti “Captain” peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. He was 89 years old. Loving husband of the late Norma Dee Clark Conti. Beloved father of Terri Zehngut Mitchell (David), and the late Gina Lee Myers. Grandfather of David J. Mitchell, Jr. (Nathalie), Taylor Mitchell Spansel (Jeffery), Haley Anne Myers, and the late Sean Michael Haire. Great grandfather of Arizona Sky Mitchell and Sedona Faye Mitchell. Brother of Lolita Pittman (Charlie), Donnie de la Reguera, and the late Tommy de la Reguera. He is also survived by his good friend, George Carcabasis, brother-in-law, Willis “Bill” Clark (Millie), sister-in-law, Diane Clark, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard served in the United States Navy, and was a World War II combat veteran. After his service in the Navy, he enlisted in the merchant marines where he was a Master mariner. He sailed with Lykes Brothers Steamship Company and retired after 44 years of service. Richard was an avid horseman, and enjoyed the sport of Thoroughbred racing. His travels throughout the world resulted in a man of vast and uncommon knowledge. His gentleness and love for his family will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ochsner – Kenner (ICU) and Canon Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 1:00PM. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
