Richard Harvey Owen, Sr.

He was the son of the late Helen Helmker Owen and the late Clarence Reece Owen, Sr. Brother of the late Clarence Reece Owen, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn O’Sullivan Owen; his children, son, Richard H. Owen, Jr. (Pamela), daughters Bonnie Hartdegan (Myron), Christine Lecler (Michel), Michele Gardner; stepchildren, Lori Johnson (Michael), Gary Bordelon (Cathy) and Teri Gates (Sean); his grandchildren, Richard H. Owen, III, Charlotte Basham, Joseph Owen, Brandy Penedo, Joshua Hartdegan, Brittany Hartdegan, Gabrielle Lecler, Julia Lecler, Lyle Gardner, Jr., Dominic Gardner; his step-grandchildren, Caitlin Johnson, Connor Johnson, Chandler Johnson, Payton Johnson, Parker Johnson, Samantha Bordelon, Brandon Miller, Britney Miller, Sebastian Gates, Caleb Gates; his great-grandchildren, Haley Owen, Samuel Owen, Blaire Owen, Rhemi Penedo, Andi Penedo, Hunter Bordelon, Aiden Miller, Damon Miller, and Aubrie Dematteo.

Richard was a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob for 39 years.

He was born into construction and worked in construction his entire life. He and JoAnn were the proud owners of Richard Owen Construction Company from 1988 until retirement in 2013.

Special thanks to nurse Kim Fenn of St Catherine’s Hospice for the generosity and care shown to Richard and our family, and to Larry Gibbs for a lifetime of friendship and organizing Richard’s memorial service.

Richard loved his family, his friends, LSU, the Saints, the Pelicans, and fishing.

We will be celebrating Richard on Saturday, November 13th, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Harahan Lions Club Hall, 1001 Hickory Avenue.
