Robert or “Bob” was born on March 18, 1939 in New York, where he lived until the age of 17. He then moved to Pittsburg to attend college. After graduating he lived in Dallas for a short period, then work brought him to New Orleans, which he called home for the rest of his live. It was on a blind date he fell in love with Rea Meyers, whom he made his wife. Always best friends, their greatest joy came along in March of 1975, Elizabeth.
Bob was a computer programmer and systems analyst, working with computers since 1960. He was a resident of Harahan for 47 years along with his wife, who sadly passed of a heart attack in 2007. Bob was a member of St. Rita Church in Harahan and an avid collector of streetcar memorabilia.
He is survived by his only child Elizabeth Mathilde Minnerly, and brothers Roger (FL) and Dean (TX). Dean, the youngest of three boys, sadly remembers Bob leaving for college. At 13 Bob was six feet tall and used to “fly” five-year-old Dean around the house, hoisting him to the ceiling and exclaiming, “Super Dean!” Roger, the second eldest, fondly remembers visiting local news and magazine stores in Tarrytown, NY, so he and Bob could get their hands on the comics to read.
Robert was a well-loved “Gentle Giant,” devoted to his faith and possessing a large heart. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Robert will be held Monday, November 18, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00 PM, with interment thereafter at St Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119.
