Robert Rappaport

He was the son of Gussie Hirsch Rappaport and Samuel A. Rappaport and grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia and served as an officer in the US Navy. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania, Town School where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. Robert also attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Robert enjoyed a long career in mechanical and electrical engineering, working on industrial projects all around the city of New Orleans and in Washington DC and Houston, Texas. He finished his career in Bridge City, LA, managing his own company, serving the electrical needs of businesses on the West Bank in New Orleans.

Robert is preceded in death by his loving and beloved wife, Ann Wilmot Gauthier Rappaport. He is survived by his daughters, Carrie R. Murtha and Jessica Rappaport; his stepchildren: Julie Gauthier and her husband, Bill; David Gauthier and his wife, Noel, son-in-law Laurent LaBien and preceded in death by stepdaughter Mimi Gauthier.

He is also survived by his sister, Susan Rappaport Marwil and preceded in death by her husband, Brand Marwil as well as their children: Jeff Marwil and his wife Michelle, and their children Sophie, Jake and Harry, Sammi and Andrew Bernick; Bruce Marwil and his children, Sloane and Darby; Jo Marwil and her partner Andrea Hansen and their daughter, Amelia.

Also mourning Robert’s loss are his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Murtha, Morgan Luft Murtha, Alyssa Murtha, Michael Vega and Jack LaBien, as well as his great grandchildren, Everett Murtha, Briggs Murtha and Jackson Murtha-Vega.

Robert loved his family and treasured his friends. He will be deeply missed by all of them.

A graveside service will be held in Metairie Cemetery, located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA, 70124. The service is scheduled for December 12, 2025, 10:00am.
