Robert C. Schmitt, Sr.

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, and grandfather, Robert “Bob” Charles Schmitt Sr. He passed away on June 19, 2024 at 86 years of age, and he was born in New Orleans, LA on November 6, 1937 to Clarence August Schmitt and Isabel Elizabeth LeBlanc Schmitt.

Robert served 20 years and was a retired New Orleans Firefighter, served on the Reserve Air National Guard, and had his own construction business part time. He belonged to many clubs throughout the years but had a passion for the Slidell Racing Pigeon Club, the Tchoupitoulas Beagle Club, Jefferson City Buzzards, and The Corner Club where he was Grand Marshal in 1985. He marched with The Corner Club for most of his life and loved New Orleans Jazz music. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time at his camp on Lake Catherine with family.

He is survived by his sister, Susan S Cullen (Michael); his loving wife and partner of 33 years and caregiver for the past 6 years, Judy Calongne; Elaine, the mother of his 4 children; his children Robert C Schmitt Jr (Royanne), Randy J Schmitt (Angie), Lisa Schmitt, Lori S Lemoine (James); his grandchildren, Gretchen, Robbie (Danielle), Tara, Maci, Angelle, Denise, and Sally, and his great-grandchildren, Luca, Liam, Lane, Johnny, and Isaiah.

He was an amazing man and never passed a poor box without donating or giving back to someone in need. He will be greatly missed by all.
