Robert Tasker Watts Sr., always known as Bobby, husband of Beverly Perez Watts died at home on Friday September 19 at the age of 77. Loving father of Robert T. Watts Jr. (Tek) and Lisa W. Ryan (Michael). Doting grandfather of Lindsey Michelle and Courtney Lynn Ryan, Mia Elise and Shelby Grace Watts. Son of the late Tasker M. Watts and Elsa Esler Watts. Brother of Denney T. Watts (Evelyn) and Kathleen W. Hare (Richard). Brother-in-law of V. Joseph Perez (Mary) and Robert Perez (Laura). Bobby was a native of New Orleans. He attended St. Matthias Catholic School and De La Salle High School. He was an avid Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He served in the Army and spent two years in Alaska, no place for a Southern boy, according to him. Bobby returned to New Orleans and rejoined United Airlines as a Customer Service Agent, from which he retired after 38 years. Bobby & Bev travelled the world with their children, enjoying such places as Italy, Greece, England, Brazil, France, Spain, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, Mexico, Amsterdam, and most of Central America. He was the epitome of the hobbyist, enjoying the challenge of learning a craft, and working at it until he perfected it, then moving on to a new adventure. From tropical fish, to raising orchids, to painting, to wood carving, and stained glass - he mastered them all. He stayed in touch with old friends, particularly enjoying 'Boys Night Out' with his St. Matthias buddies once a month. He was a man of few words but he dearly loved his family and enjoyed surrounding himself with his children, grandchildren and grand dog Zack. Other than a 20 year stint in Ft. Myers, Florida with United, he spent his entire life in the New Orleans area. Carnival and crawfish were some of his loves. He proudly paraded with Okeanos and Mokana as a younger man, and still was ready to catch some beads with his family every year. He rarely missed watching football, especially his beloved Saints and LSU Tigers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
