Roberto Bruno Herrera, born October 06, 1940 to Adolfo Melchor Herrera and Blanca Lopez Herrera, passed away peacefully at home, while holding hands with his loving wife of 62 years and surrounded by his family. Bruno was born in Havana, Cuba and migrated to the United States shortly after marriage and realizing Cuba's future demise under a Communist regime. His love for the United States, along with the opportunity and freedom it offers, was a basis throughout his life.
Bruno knew that every opportunity needs to be supported by hard work to achieve success. He arrived in the United States without any capital and immediately began supporting his family as an apple picker in Indianapolis. He was later offered an opportunity within Mexico’s sugar industry, and, as a result, moved his wife and newly born daughter to Veracruz, Mexico. While in Veracruz, he also capitalized on owning a minor league winning baseball team, due to his love of the game. But, Bruno knew greater opportunity still remained in the United States and, once again, moved his family, with the addition of his recently born son, to New Orleans, Louisiana. His passion for freedom and his brilliant negotiation skills led to his participation with the Central Intelligence Agency during the Reagan/Bush administration. But, prior to that, he continued his career in the sugar industry, and also founded an International Export company in 1988. With Bruno's commitment to detail, the company has grown as a distributor and manufacturer of industrial supplies for the domestic and international market. Until November 1, 2022, he remained active with the company and oversaw its diversification into other industries. Bruno has received numerous personal and corporate awards.
Roberto Bruno Herrera was most proud of his family. He leaves behind his wife Cecilia Haget Herrera, daughter Cecilia Babin and his son-in-law Mike Babin, son Adolfo "Al" Herrera and his daughter-in-law Gina Herrera, his grandson Scott Lepley (Christy Lepley), granddaughter Allison Herrera, granddaughter Ashley Babin, grandson Alexander Herrera and step-grandson Brett Babin (Cheryl Babin) along with great grandson Michael Lepley and step-great-granddaughters Abigail and Kiley Babin. He left behind his sisters Lourdes Adams (Wayne Adams) and Martha H Alonso, brother Jose Herrera (Marcia Herrera), brother-in-law Hector Haget (Lourdes Haget), sister-in-law Dolores Haget, along with numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Bruno's infectious smile and his storytelling will be missed, but his character of genuinely improving people's lives, integrity and fighting for your beliefs is legendary.
