Roma Mary Lucy Diermayer Bertucci, a life-long resident of New Orleans, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the age of 92. Born on July 23, 1922, Roma traveled the nation and the world, but always delighted in returning to her beloved city of New Orleans. Her hospitality was legendary, her generosity was unlimited, and her love of family and friends knew no bounds. She was an enthusiastic audience member, whether at a Broadway musical, a local theater production, a school play or a Kindergarten graduation. She graduated in the class of 1939 from St. Mary’s Dominican High School, where she served as the first editor of the school newspaper, The Star. She worked as an office manager at Amico Insurance Company and was the president of the Local Union of Pari-Mutuel Clerks at the New Orleans Fairgrounds, where she and her late husband, Peter, worked for many years and made many friends. Before her failing health prevented it, Roma was an active parishioner of St. Christopher Catholic Church for almost forty years. There she served as a lector, helped make and distribute rosaries, brought Holy Communion to the sick, and attended daily Mass. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her brother Carl Breaux (Debbie), and her five children: Kim Bertucci (Pat), Jon Bertucci (Pat), Jill B. Chenevert, Peter Bertucci (Gayle) and Brian Bertucci (Jana.) Other survivors include her 13 grandchildren, and her 9 great-grandchildren, who will also miss her warmth, encouragement and unconditional love. They were always “ precious angels,” whenever their parents asked how they had behaved. Roma will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, her friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, November 24, at St. Christopher Church, 309 Manson Ave., Metairie, Louisiana 70001. Visitation will be from 10:30-12:00, with the Mass following at 12:00. Interment will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Mary’s Dominican Library Fund, where Roma’s love of books will be shared by the girls there for years to come www.stmarysdominican.org.
