Ronald Stephen " Monk" Barras, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in River Ridge, La., on April 3, 2023. Adored and Beloved Husband of Lydia Candela Barras. Much Beloved Daddy of Andrea Lauren Barras and Jeffrey Michael Barras. Proud and Loving Grandpaw of Crowley Rose Barras. Adored Father-in Law of Melissa Rudolph Barras. Younger Brother of Joseph Albert " Corky" Barras Jr. Preceded in death by his parents Eunice Herman Barras and Joseph Albert Barras Sr.
Ronnie was a highly intelligent man, and reminded us of this quite often. He played football at E.J. High School, later earning degrees from Southeastern and Tulane, ultimately becoming an engineer. He loved kids, dogs, and old folks. He enjoyed race cars, drag racing, motorcycles, boats, and anything that went fast! His moods shifted as quickly as those race cars from grumpy grouch to sweet teddy bear in a heartbeat. Most of all, he loved his wife and kids, and worked hard to provide everything we could want or ever need. He and our Mom have always been there for us, and our mom should be graced with an "Automatic Saint with a Go Straight Up to Heaven and Do Not Pass Go" token for her patience, love, and the incredible care she has given him throughout their marriage, and especially these last few years.
His sharp wit and hysterically naughty inappropriate sense of humor kept us busy trying to shush him in public while crying with laughter on the side. He drove us crazy and could be terrible or wonderful, but he was always very much loved and will be sorely missed.
Special thanks and love go to Dr. Luis Arencibia for his wit, care, compassion and extreme patience in being our dad's doctor all these years.
Safe Travels, Daddy! You are forever loved and in our hearts! Kiss and hug all the people and the pooches we've lost when you get up there!
