

Rose Marie Wojtyna Nicholson died of natural causes on August 10, 2015 at the age of 92. She was the widow of the late Senator Elwyn J. Nicholson. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sharon Nicholson Lewis (Michael) and John Wesley Nicholson III (Kathleen Croom). She is survived by her five grandchildren, Matthew and Celeste Lewis, Anne, John IV, and William Nicholson and Kristie N. LaPish. She also leaves behind five beloved great grandchildren: Ashley Alexis Miles, Evan Patrick Nicholson, Sophia Rose Vinet, Lali Fox LaPish, and Caroline Marie Nicholson. One brother, Raymond V. Wojtyna of Dothan, Alabama, survives her. Rose Marie was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Rose Wojtyna and a brother, Leonard E. Wojtyna.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Nicholson was a Registered Nurse educated by the Daughters of Charity at Providence Hospital. After graduation, she enlisted in the U. S. Army Nursing Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a 2nd Lieutenant. She met her future husband, Elwyn, in Okinawa and returned home after the war to Louisiana where they were married. Mrs. Nicholson was a well-known business woman who worked tirelessly alongside her husband in their business, Nicholson and Loup Food Giant. She supported her husband's efforts to improve Jefferson Parish while he served four terms in the Louisiana State Senate. She earned a degree in English literature from the University of New Orleans.
A private family service was held on August 21, 2015 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Interment followed in the family tomb. The family humbly requests donations in her name be made to Catholic Charities, 1000 Howard Ave., Suite 200, NO, LA, 70113.
