

Rosemary Yvonne Brown Merwin was called home by her Heavenly Father on December 31, 2023. She was born on February 18, 1943, to Raymond and Rosemary Brown in New Orleans, Louisiana. Rosemary worked for S.H. Kress and Delta Records on Canal St. before her marriage to Allen Paul Merwin on August 12, 1967. They were happily married for 38 years until his death on January 7, 2005, and together they raised 3 children in St. Bernard Parish.
She enjoyed volunteering and being a secretary on the PTA at Arabi Elementary. She also enjoyed being a substitute teacher for many years. In her later years she enjoyed going to the local Council on Aging and competing in the Senior Olympics where she won silver and bronze medals in darts and washer pitch. She assumed the responsibilities of Dot’s 4F Club and organized monthly bus trips to casinos for several years. Her other hobbies included gardening, crocheting and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her brothers, Raymond John Brown Jr. (Karen) and Robert John Brown (Cindy); Sister-in-law, Judy Fireck (Larry); her daughters, Susan Yvonne Rodriguez (Don) and Patricia Ann Peltier (Robert); and sons, Timothy Allen Merwin (Jessica) and Michael Allan Letterman (Sabrina); her grandchildren, Shannon Yvonne Rodriguez (Don), Khristina Marie Rodriguez, Theresa Elizabeth Merwin, Allen Timothy Merwin, Christopher Robert Letterman (Elizabeth), Brandon Patrick Rodriguez (Sarah), Nathan Joseph Whitlow (Veronica), William Roberto Castro, Cecile Marie Umanzor, and Lance Anthony Umanzor. Her great grandchildren Xander Blaise Russell, Anthony Joseph Letterman, Christopher Jackson Letterman, Genevieve Bliss Letterman, Amiyah Scarlet Whitlow, Michael Lucas Whitlow, and Landon Anthony Umanzor.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Paul Merwin; her parents, Raymond Brown and Rosemary Yvonne Schackai Brown; and her nieces, Brandi McGough Landwehr and Hannah Landwehr. Rosemary will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation to be held at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans La 70124 on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
