

Salvador Maffei, Sr., beloved husband of the late Annie Calato Maffei for 56 years, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Former mechanical engineer at Kaiser Aluminum, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the age of 94 years. Father of Vincent Joseph Maffei (wife Karen), Leonard Thomas Maffei (wife Victoria), Salvador Maffei, Jr. (wife Lori Ann), Rose Maffei Schaubhut (husband Carl Joseph), and Joanne Therese Maffei. Son of the late Vincent Maffei and Mary Ann Recatto, brother of the late Benny Maffei, Russell Maffei, Emile Maffei, and Cosmo John Maffei. Survived by nine grandchildren, Jonathan, Carl, and Anne Schaubhut, Vincent, Brandon, Salvador, and Celeste Maffei, Abigail Auriemma, Kathryn Walker, and three great grandchildren, Alyssa, Carl, and Catherine Schaubhut.
Salvador was a graduate of Hammond High School and Louisiana State University with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering. He also worked at American Cyanamid. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a Combat Infantry man in Rhineland Central Europe. He received the EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Overseas Service Bar.
He was a great provider for his family, a loving man who encouraged and supported his children and grandchildren to achieve their goals. He often said that his children were his greatest accomplishment. He will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans (in Metairie Cemetery), on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 12 noon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
