

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother Sandra Carolyn McDonald Shedlarski. Sandy passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024. She was born Jan 18, 1940, in New Orleans, LA. Sandy was born to the late Homer Charles McDonald and Marie Noemi Guinle McDonald. She is survived by three siblings; Sharon McDonald Palmisano of Anchorage, AK, Christine McDonald Mirabile (late Paul Mirabile) of River Ridge, LA. and Constance M. Deffes Tardo McDonald of New Orleans, LA. She is survived by a daughter and son, Maria Corkern Ryan (Jeff Oberlander- 1st marriage) of Metairie, LA and William McDonald Corkern (Linda Schumacher Corkern) of Kenner, LA. She is survived by four grandchildren Brian Joseph Oberlander, Kurt Harrington-John Oberlander, Christian McDonald-Charles Oberlander and Colin Spencer Corkern. In addition, she will be missed by several beloved nieces and nephews. Sandy is a 1958 graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School and actively attended Alumnae functions. After high school, she attended Loyola University and graduated from the medical technology program. Sandy entered the workforce as a medical technologist and later earned her Masters in Health Science from LSU. She was the head of the blood bank of Baptist Hospital for many years and retired in 2005 with 40 years in the healthcare profession. Sandy, a parishioner of St. Ann Church and National Shrine, Metairie, LA actively contributed there for over 20 years. Sandy was a regular attendee of their Bible Study and other Adult Faith Formation Classes and was a former children's liturgy of the word coordinator, PSR Catechist, and VBS adult leader. She was a member of The New Orleans Genealogy Society and the Community of John. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 beginning at 12:00 pm followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm at St. Ann Church and National Shrine, Metairie, LA. Sandy will be laid to rest at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, the tomb is located at the intersection of Palmetto, Cedar & Aloe streets within the cemetery.
