After a decade-long battle with cancer, Sandra “Sandy” Bentz Williams earned her rest on October 29, 2021, just weeks after celebrating her 75th birthday. As Sandy always said, “scars are tattoos…with better stories!” Though she bravely bore her scars, she had stories to match each one, and those stories will be remembered and celebrated by all she leaves behind.
Sandy was born in Chatawa, Mississippi to the late Lawrence W. Bentz, Jr. and Kathleen Pick on October 11, 1946. After attending Tulane University, she worked as a Director of Hospital Material Management and was a member of Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always quick to laugh, even in the face of adversity. She was a mighty warrior in a tiny package! Sandy loved photography and had recently become passionate about photo restoration. She was drawn to learning about her family’s history and restoring historical family photos to preserve them for future generations. She also loved animals, with a special affinity for both horses and cats. Her many fur babies brought her much comfort throughout the years, especially the two sweet kittens she had recently adopted, Missy and Trixie.
She is also survived by: her husband of 41 years, Donald R. Williams; her son, Bradley A. Harmison (Karen); her niece, Laynie Humphrey (Brian); her nephew, Brent Williams; her great nephew, Noah Humphrey; and her great niece, Zoe Humphrey.
The family would like to give their special thanks to Karen and Sonny Fisse and their daughters, Katie and Meaghan, for their love and support. The family would additionally like to thank Compasses Hospice & Palliative Care for their sincere and compassionate care. Special thanks is given to Nurse Practitioner Kayla Jones, Registered Nurse Nova Land, and Chaplain Rob Morris.
In lieu of flowers, the family humbly appreciates donations made to Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church at 11101 Belle Alliance Dr., LaPlace, LA 70068 in Sandy’s honor.
