Sandra Lee Brower Rockwell, a devoted educator and lifelong beach lover, passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2025, at the age of 77. A proud New Orleanian, Sandy was a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Angels and the University of New Orleans. She spent 41 years inspiring young minds with the same warmth and vibrancy that defined her beloved city.
Sandy taught at Lake Castle Private School, Mildred Osborne Elementary, and Edward Hynes Charter School. She was more than a teacher- she was a mentor, a guide, and a joyful presence in the lives of countless students and future educators. Her greatest joy came from watching children grow and thrive.
Outside the classroom, Sandy embraced life with infectious joy. Her laughter lit up every room, her spirit was adventurous, and her love for the beach was unwavering.
Sandy is survived by her loving life partner, Gregory Joseph Becnel. She was preceded in death by her father, Rodney Charles Brower; her mother, Lorraine Grimes Dendinger; her stepfather, George Dendinger; her brother, Rodney Charles Brower Jr., and her former husbands, Robert Rockwell Sr. and John McGregor.
A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at noon on July 9, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made by the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
