Dr. Savitri Singh Kadan

Dr. Savitri Singh Kadan, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2021. Born in Sonepat, Haryana in India, Dr. Kadan immigrated to the United States in 1966 to join her husband. She obtained her medical degree at Dharbanga Medical College in Bihar (India) and completed her residency in OB/GYN at Patna Medical College and another residency in Family Practice at Louisiana State University.

Dr. Kadan is preceded in death by her cherished husband of 44 years, Dr. Ranjit Singh Kadan, her parents Ram Kaur and Chaudhary Balram Singh; her younger sister Dr. Shakuntala Kumari and younger brothers, Devendra Singh and Jitendra Singh.

She is survived by her only child and daughter, Dr. Nina Singh Kadan-Lottick (husband Dr. Adam Lottick); beloved grandchildren Samantha, Kadan, and Antrim Lottick; sister, Dr. Rajkumari Singh; and her brother, Gulaab Singh.

Dr. Kadan practiced medicine for nearly 60 years and loved her profession and her patients. She was known for her intelligence, hard work, determination, and charm. Her greatest joys were her daughter and grandchildren. She was also part of a close-knit community of lifelong friends and neighbors who were dear to her.

She was a trailblazer. She achieved a medical degree in India during a time when few women were able to break into what was considered a male profession. After attaining faculty status at Patna Medical College, she emigrated to a new country and had to repeat her training and learn how to thrive in a new culture. Despite these obstacles, she garnered the respect of her patients and colleagues.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service to be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021. A Sradh puja for relatives and friends will immediately follow the services at 10:30 a.m. at the ISKCON Hindu Temple at 2936 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70119.
