Obituario de Shirley Rosenzweig Steeg
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Shirley Rosenzweig Steeg, 98, died on Friday, December 5, 2025, in Austin, Texas. She was born on January 9, 1927, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Morris and Rose Rosenzweig. She is predeceased by her husband Samuel Aaron Steeg and siblings Marx Rosenzweig, Irwin Ross, and Helen Greenberg. She is survived by her daughters Judy Steeg Simkin, Susan Steeg and wife Sarah Calvert, and grandson Ross Emanuel Simkin.

Shirley lived in New Orleans for her first 78 years. She was confirmed at Temple Sinai in 1941 and graduated from Eleanor McMain High School in 1943. She married Sam in 1947, and they spent 62 wonderful years together before his death. Their life together as native New Orleanians ended when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city in 2005. They were able to safely evacuate before the storm hit. They moved to Austin, Texas, where one of their daughters lived.

Shirley began a career in public service, retiring from the Veterans Administration as a senior claims examiner in the Adjudication Division. Shirley and Sam traveled extensively during both her working and retirement years, especially enjoying trips to London for theatrical productions. She was an avid reader and an excellent bridge and Mah Jonng player. She volunteered at Longue Vue Gardens and worked on fundraisers benefiting the Audubon Zoo.

Shirley was known for her graciousness, congeniality, and kindness. She always had a smile on her face and a quick wit. She was active until the end of her life thanks to the wonderful people who nurtured her when she moved into memory care at Maravilla at the Domain. Her family is grateful for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Anti-Defamation League, Temple Sinai, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, or a charity of your choice.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11:00 A. M. at Hebrew Rest Cemetery #3, 2003 Pelopidas Street, New Orleans.
