Stanford H. Latter, age 81, died at his New Orleans residence peacefully, following a brief illness. He was the husband of the beloved late Eileen Pulitzer Latter, to whom he was married for 49 years and his second wife, Jan Sullivan. He was son of the late Beulah and Morris Latter and brother of the late Steven Latter.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Latter (Edward "Ned" Brown) of New Orleans and Cindy Latter of Metairie; his grandson, Quintin Richter; and his siblings, Ann Light (Martin) and Jerry Latter (Linda).
Latter was a successful and accomplished businessman whose career was rooted primarily in real estate, where he became a respected and trusted partner. Known for his intelligence, creativity, and unwavering integrity, he was admired not only for his professional achievements but also for his modest, understated nature. Despite his many accomplishments, Stanford was never one to draw attention to himself and preferred to let his work speak for itself. All who knew him relished his quirky sense of humor. He graduated from Fortier High School and attended Louisiana State University. A talented gin player, he spent much of his retirement enjoying regular gin rummy games with close friends. At the age of 79, his skill at the table was recognized on the world stage when he placed second at the World Series of Gin Rummy in Las Vegas. He loved music and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe to attend concerts. Stanford embraced the Mardi Gras season wholeheartedly. Each year, he and his wife Eileen hosted a Mardi Gras celebration at Tujague’s, welcoming family and friends to gather and celebrate the spirit and tradition of the season. Latter was a lifelong member of Congregation Gates of Prayer in Metairie, and will be remembered as a devoted father, loyal friend, and steadfast business partner whose warmth and wit left a lasting impression.
A private graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 in Metairie Cemetery with Rabbi David Gerber officiating.
Kindly omit flowers. Memorials are suggested to Congregation Gates of Prayer, 4000 West Esplanade Avenue, Metairie, LA 70002.
