Sturgis L. Schexnaydre

Sturgis L. Schexnaydre, passed away at the age of 92 on January 31, 2025, in River Ridge, Louisiana. He was born on February 17, 1932, in Destrehan, Louisiana. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette formally Southwestern Louisiana University. He served in ROTC, the United States Air Force from 1954 -1957 and the Reserve from 1958 -1972. He was a Manager of Property Insurance Association of Louisiana and was a member of Knights of Columbus at St. Matthew’s in River Ridge, LA. Sturgis loved gardening, woodworking, playing bridge and camping.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen DeValcourt Schexnaydre for 62 wonderful years; his parents, Joseph Lucien Schexnaydre and Maudrie Hebert Schexnaydre; his sister, Hazel Keating and brothers, Wilbert Schexnaydre and Nolan Schexnaydre.

Sturgis is survived by his daughters; Esther Catalanotto (Arthur), Gale Martinez (Jimmie) and Stacie Nurdin (David); his sons, Kurt Schexnaydre (Maureen) and Kyle Schexnaydre (Dawn); his sister, Phyllis Piazza; his grandchildren, Michael Schexnaydre (Greer), Lauren Landry (Peter), Salvatore Peraino (Brittney), Alise Walker (Matthew), Rachel Brown (Shawn), Page Bordelon (Taylor), Melissa Luft (Joshua) and Nacole Diaz (Byron). Also survived by 15 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. until the Mass begins at Noon.
