

Sue Whitty Johnson passed away at her home in Folsom, LA on August 23rd at the age of 100. Born in New Orleans, she moved to Natchitoches with her husband in 1945, returned in New Orleans in 1954 until moving to Mandeville in 2005, and then joined her daughter to live in Folsom in 2020.
She graduated from Gulf Park in Long Beach, MS, then attended LSU, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and met her husband, whom she married in 1942.
She served on the Board of Lake Vista United Methodist Church and shared her heart of gold by volunteering for the USO during World War II, and later volunteered with Lakeview Shepherd Center, Keyes House, and other charitable organizations. She was very active as a member of Friends of St. Anna’s, Lake Terrace Garden Club, Lake Terrace Women’s Club, and the Jefferson Davis Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She loved gardening, doing hand-work, playing bridge, and reading, but her greatest love was for her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, Sadie Kimbro Whitty and John Wade Whitty; her two brothers, Stephen Whitty and John Whitty, Jr.; her son-in-law, Kerry Burst; and her devoted husband of 66 years, Pittman Johnson.
She is survived by: her kitty-companion of 12 years, Sweetie; her son, Pittman Johnson, Jr. (Kathleen), her daughter, Patricia “PJ” Burst; her granddaughter, Allison Melkie (Marc); her great-granddaughters Madeleine and Eleanor Melkie; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care in Sue’s final days, as well as to Jessica Scholl for her loving care over the past two years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70121 on Saturday, August 27th, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with services directly following at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn. Dr. Norwood Hingle, III with be officiating. Burial will be private.
