She was preceded in death by her parents, Norton Edward England and Mary Nell Gentry England, and her brother, Norton England III. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, George Woodside White; her daughters, Susan White Toso (Brien) and Georgia White Farnan (Patrick); and her beloved grandchildren, Brien “James” Toso, Jr., Susan “Caroline” Toso, Mary “Elizabeth” Toso, Katherine Gentry Farnan, and Robert Patrick Farnan.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 27, 1940, Susan grew up in Old Metairie and graduated from the Louise S. McGehee School. She attended Louisiana State University, where she was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and later continued her education at Trenton State Teachers’ College in New Jersey. Returning to New Orleans, she earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans.
Susan was an active member of the Orleans Club, the Junior League of New Orleans, Sybarites, and the St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. Her true calling, however, was teaching. She dedicated more than two decades to educating young children, teaching Pre-Kindergarten at the Louise S. McGehee School from 1982 to 1988, and then Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School from 1988 until her retirement in 2004. Her gentle spirit and love for teaching touched the lives of countless students and their families.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. until service time.
