The long-life journey of Sylvia Emerman has ended. Sylvia was born at Touro Infirmary in 1925 as the only child of Louis and Lillie S. Bronfin. She grew up in New Orleans and graduated from Henry W Allen High School. In 1945, she married Joel Emerman from Canton, Ohio. They had three children: Marsha Emerman Piacun (Pasko), Donna Emerman Singer (Ronald), and Alan Emerman (Debra).
Her career in office administration took her from the Conservative Congregation to Chevra Thilim to the Council of Jewish Women.
Sylvia had seven grandchildren: Hillary Singer Moussali (Louis), Lynne Piacun, Stephanie Piacun Franco (Dr. Luis), Paul Singer (Kaci), Danny Piacun (Cristina), Marjorie Emerman Alpert (Dr. Joshua) and Joel Emerman (Marni). She also had 13 great grandchildren: Maria, Isabelle, Sophie, Immanuel, Christopher, Jackson, Madelyn, Samuel, Jillian, Evan, Selena, Eliya and Alexis.
During her lifetime, she enjoyed bowling, mahjong, and traveling around the world. In recent years, she lived in an assisted living community home, under the watchful eye of her caring nurse, Monique Brannon.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Gates of Prayer Cemetery, 1411 Joseph Street, New Orleans with Rabbi David Gerber officiating.
Sylvia was a lifetime member of Congregation Gates of Prayer of Metairie.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donation in her memory be sent to Congregation Gates of Prayer, 4000 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie LA 70002.
