

Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Adolph Charles Wahlen, Sr. and Ursula Jackson Wahlen, and her brother, Adolph Charles Wahlen, Jr. (Brenda).
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Donna Ziegler Schexnayder (Bryan); her four sons, Edward Louis Ziegler, Charles John Ziegler (Risa), Richard Frederic Ziegler (Monique), and Terence Scott Ziegler (Michelle); and her eight grandchildren, Charles Alexander Ziegler, Frederick Austin Ziegler, Matthew Aaron Ziegler (Lanie), Stefan Eric Schexnayder, Sophie Grace Schexnayder, Tristan Edward Ziegler, Tessa Grace Ziegler, and Ryan Michael Ziegler. She is also survived by her former husband and friend, Don S. Ziegler.
Sylvia was born in New Orleans on July 12, 1937. She graduated from Warren Easton High School, class of 1955. Her career spanned over 20 years working in the steamship industry for both Norton Lilly International, Inc. and Kerr Steamship Company, Inc.
Sylvia loved music and singing. She was a member of several music clubs in high school and was a lifelong Elvis fan. She also enjoyed arts and crafts. She was also an avid fan of Jesuit High School… but above all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Academy House / Harvard House, for the love and care they provided.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 1:00PM. The visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM. The interment will follow the chapel service at Lake Lawn Park.
