

Thomas “Tom” Smyth, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the age of 84 years. Tom was born in Larne, County Antrim, Northern Ireland to John Smyth and Isabella Steele Smyth. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Finney Smyth; his parents; and his brother, John F. “Jack” Smyth of Larne.
Tom is survived by his loving son, Michael (Michelle); grandchildren, Jayne Smyth and Jesse Smyth; a sister, Marjorie S. Perriam of Weymouth, England; a brother, Philip A. Smyth of Ballycarry, Northern Ireland; his longtime companion, Theresa Huete and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom graduated from Queens University, Belfast, with a degree in electrical engineering, and immigrated to the United States in 1968 to work for Avondale Shipyards. He worked as a computer programmer at Avondale Shipyards and Textron Marine systems.
Tom was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Metairie. He enjoyed square dancing and belonged to Swing ‘N’ Turn group. He also participated in the Ulster Project for many years. He loved his pets, he enjoyed singing Irish songs, and telling outrageous jokes and puns. He liked the challenge of the most difficult British crossword puzzles, which he solved with ease.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 2:00PM. The visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 12:00PM. The interment will follow the chapel service at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
