Thomas Paul Treuting

Thomas Paul Treuting died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at age 63. Tommy spent the last few years in a hard fought battle with heart and renal disease. Throughout his struggle, he was supported with loving care from his best friend and wife, Jan, as well as his children, extended family and medical professionals.

Tommy was preceded in death by his first spouse, Karen Stiegler Treuting. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janis Gafford Treuting, sons, Thomas Paul Treuting Jr. and Matthew Allen Treuting, step-children, Todd Mondello and Dana M. Garrett, daughters-in-law, Rebecca H. Treuting and Trisha Mondello, son-in-law, Grant Garrett, and five grandchildren: Paul Spencer, Harris Taylor, Sydney Michelle, Alana Grace and Sadie Elizabeth.

He was a beloved brother of Louise Parks, Louis “Jack” Treuting III (Jamie), Frederick “Rick” Treuting (Susan), Amelie “Kiki” Russ (Kevin), J.B. Treuting (Mary), and Gretchen Hayman (Bernard).

Tommy worked for 35 years as a devoted and valued member of Diversified Foods & Seasonings. He was grateful for the many years he spent creating the food New Orleanians have to come to love.

Enriching others in his Catholic faith, Tommy served as a mentor, initiating candidates into the RCIA program at St. Matthew the Apostle Church in River Ridge. Tommy was inducted into the Order of St. Louis for the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 2015. His loyalty was unmeasured when it came to his commitment to his family, friends and faith. Tommy was known for his tender and generous nature, as well as his unending faith and devotion to God. His sweet smile and contagious laugh will be missed, but always remembered.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew the Apostle Church on 10021 Jefferson Highway in River Ridge, on Monday, November 14, 2016. The funeral Mass will follow at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations are made to the Woman’s New Life Center or the American Kidney Fund.
