

Verbie Jane Schiro passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of October 4, 2015, at the age of 93. She will be joining her mother, Iona Johnson, her husband, Francis J. Schiro, and her son, George L. Schiro on the other side. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lorrie Schiro, and three grandchildren, Sara (Stefan Miller), Alana, and Lucas Schiro. She also has two great-grandsons, Caleb and Little George. Originally from Guthrie, Oklahoma, Mrs. Schiro moved to the city of New Orleans at the age of 18 to join her mother and step-father. She attended LSU. Mrs. Schiro loved life and she lived a full one. In her heyday, she traveled the world, danced to Louis Prima at The Blue Room, and threw lavish cocktail parties. Mrs. Schiro lived for the holidays when she would shower her family and friends with gifts. She was also fond of Mardi Gras, and she and her late husband attended many Carnival balls and events. Mrs. Schiro enjoyed dining out, shopping, and her weekly appointments at the beauty parlor. A lifelong redhead, she was known for her feisty personality and cracking people up with her wise remarks. She appreciated a good Bloody Mary and good company. Mrs. Schiro will be missed by those that knew her. Mrs. Schiro will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held on October 7, 2015 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home From 5-8pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday October 8, 2015 at 12 noon with a visitation to begin at 11 am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Arrangements entrusted to Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.
