

Verna Wetzel Arbour, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, in Covington, Louisiana. Verna was born in New Orleans on December 11, 1928 to William Joseph Wetzel and Evelyn Bienvenu Wetzel. Verna grew up in St. Martinville, Louisiana, then New Orleans, where she married Dr. Edgar Francis Arbour, Jr.
She was a beautiful and lovely lady who provided many gorgeous portraits that will live on in the homes of many, for generations. She was a devoted Catholic who loved the outdoors. She went on many walking tours throughout England, Ireland, France and Italy. After all of her accomplishments, what meant the most was being a mom, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, William Joseph and Evelyn Bienvenu Wetzel, brothers William Wetzel, Jr., Rodney Wetzel, husband Dr. Edgar Francis Arbour, Jr., daughter, Joan Arbour Grant, and granddaughter, Alexandra Sidonie Grant.
Verna is survived by her brother, Raymond Wetzel, children, Edgar F. Arbour, III (Margaret) and John W. Arbour (Michele). In addition, Grandchildren: Caroline Arbour Willmon (Nate), Neilson Arbour (Laura), Courtney Arbour, Megan Arbour Stryker (Chip), Elise Arbour Mnichowski (Derek), Nicole Arbour Koch (Corey), and Dominique Grant Godfrey (Nicholas). Great Grandchildren: Colton Willmon, Emma Willmon, Ella Willmon, Adeline Arbour, Blythe Arbour, Bartlett Stryker, Theodore Stryker, Winston Stryker, Mila Mnichowski, John Alan Mnichowski, Amelie Godfrey, Delphine Godfrey and many nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the compassionate care provided by Angel, and her team of wonderful caregivers, along with the staff at St. Anthony’s Gardens and team of ACG Hospice workers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
