Walter P. Harris Jr.

Walter P. Harris, Jr. born September 14, 1933, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. Beloved husband of 61 years to Hulda Collins Harris. Son of the late Margaret Martin Harris and Walter P. Harris, Sr. Father of Walter P. Harris, III (wife Aimee) and Jayme Harris Miller (husband Kim). Grandfather of Kathryn Aimee Bear, Collins Elizabeth and Patrick McHenry Harris and also of Drew Jacob, Graham Harris and Parker David Ryan. Great-grandfather of Reese Elizabeth Bear and Harrison James Bear. Also survived by brothers: Emerson Newton Harris, John Edward Harris and Dr. Justin Jarred Hendricks.

Born and reared in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Metairie, LA, since 1957. Mr. Harris was an active member of St. Matthew’s Methodist Church. Mr. Harris attended Fortier School for boys and graduated from Tulane University School of Business, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Tulane Greenbackers Club and Arnold Air Society. He served as an United States Air Force officer as a jet pilot and a helicopter pilot after which he served as Sales Manager for the Brown’s Velvet Dairy for 32 years and during his career, he was elected President of the Young Men’s Business Organization, and was a member of the Hermes Carnival Organization, Tulane Green Wave Club and the Mississippi River Bridge advisory committee. Mr. Harris loved being with his children and grandchildren, sport fishing, summers in Destin and Mardi Gras. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
