

Lynn is survived by his wife Barbara, and their two children, Seth Holifield and his wife Jennifer, Katie Holifield and Alejandro Castro: his two children from a previous marriage Danielle Martin and her husband Glen, and Adam Holifield and his wife Tara. Lynn also leaves behind five grandchildren Austin, Evan, Elijah, Layla and Julia and numerous other family and friends who celebrate the time they shared together. Lynn was preceded in death by his father Elijah, mother Roxie, brother Thomas and sisters Marianne and Nancy.
Lynn was born on September 18, 1945, in Laurel, Mississippi to Elijah “Lige” & Roxie Holifield. Lynn spent most of his childhood in Laurel and frequently reminisced about how much he loved it there. Lynn and his mother Roxie moved to New Orleans after the passing of his father. While in New Orleans Lynn graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School before enlisting in the United States Navy. Lynn served in the Navy for thirty-two distinguished years. Lynn was a Vietnam Veteran and ultimately retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Lynn also had an extensive and distinguished career with the phone company. Lynn began his forty-two year career with Bell South and worked for various subsidiaries throughout the years. During this time, Lynn also took upon the responsibility of representing his fellow workers by serving in several positions in the Communications Workers of America Union. Lynn served as the 2nd Vice President from 1972-1975, 1st Vice President from 1975-1978, President from 1978-1981 and as an a ATT’S Bargaining Unit Agent from 1984-1987. If Lynn wasn’t busy enough with the phone company, Navy and union, he also volunteered countless hours coaching the youth of St Bernard parish. For over twenty-five years Lynn coached baseball, basketball and football to hundreds of young men and women at Versailles Park.
Lynn lived an amazing life filled with loss, love and a thirst for life. He was known by several names to include Buzz, Coach Lynn, Lurch, Grumpy and Mump-Mump. Lynn was a loving father, son, husband and friend. No matter what name you knew Lynn by he was an amazing man and will be truly missed by friends and family near and far.
A visitation for Lynn will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a memorial service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
