Warren Donald Cashio passed away at his home in Metairie, Louisiana, on January 22, 2024, at the age of 81. Donald is survived by his wife, Kaye Cashio; brothers, L. Thomas Cashio, MD (Sharman) and Andrew Cashio (Leslie); sisters, Charlotte Bernadas (Ronald) and Vertelee Springer (Steve). He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Coste Cashio and Samuel S. Cashio, and brother, James Walter Cashio.
Donald was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 15, 1942. He attended Holy Name of Jesus grammar school, Jesuit High School, and Loyola University. During his time at Loyola, he was a member of Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity, vigorously competing in intramural sports such as boxing and basketball. He was captain of the varsity tennis team and a member of the ROTC Pershing Rifle Team. After graduating from Loyola, he became a news director at KTIB radio station in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Don returned to Loyola, enrolling in Law School while concurrently working for the Associated Press. Donald had a 50-year career as a practicing attorney in the New Orleans area. He also served his country as a member of the United States Air National Guard.
Throughout his life, Don enjoyed the camaraderie of his many friends while he participated in scuba diving, tennis, golf, snow skiing, and traveling. He was one of the original members of the Over the Mountain Athletic Club from which he developed lasting friendships.
But what everyone who knew Donald remembers most is his fun-loving personality, his quick wit, his joke telling, his life-of-the-party persona. He was the brother who took care of everybody’s legal matters, the uncle who was Santa every year, the husband who bought the biggest stack of birthday presents and always opened the door for his wife, and the friend who was the most fun to be with.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass officiated by Fr. Gregg Grovenburg in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., in New Orleans on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11 AM. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. After the chapel service, Donald will be laid to rest in Hope Mausoleum.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Newman for his excellent care. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 4486 Houston, TX 77210-4486.
